  • Lead Guide, Map Nerd, Cool Head

Growing up in the mountains of New Hampshire instilled a passion for getting outdoors and exploring beyond the normally accessible. As a long time skier, mountain guide and river guide I pursued those passions for many years and inspired a love of sharing these wild places with clients over the decades.

We are fortunate to live and explore in the Rocky Mtns and after a lifetime on two wheels, bicycles and motorcycles, spending the past 10 years exclusively exploring on an adventure motorcycle has reinforced that love of sharing these amazing places with folks.

Having spent the bulk of my career in the outdoor recreation industry, leading product teams and brands at some of our iconic labels, from Osprey to The North Face to Kelty, I developed a love of how our gear works, to protect us and to allow for the most enjoyable experience,.....hopefully!!  Stoked to share stories about what worked and what didn't, while sitting around a campfire.

With a lifelong interest around maps and a near photographic memory for places we have been, I have become our team trip planner and can't wait to share our incredible backyard with others.  See ya soon.  Keep smiling!!

There's nothing I love more than exploring the backcountry.  Whether it's on skis, a mountain bike, a pair of trail shoes, or a motorcycle, the mountains and red rock canyons are where my soul is at peace.  And I love sharing these places with other like-minded adventurers, sitting around the campfire telling stories and sleeping out under the stars.

I was an aerospace engineer for 27 years working on iconic missions like the Mars rovers, the Hubble Space Telescope, the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station, and the first Google Earth satellite.

I fell in love with motorcycles while living in the mountains of central Mexico in 1995 and have been riding ever since, eventually becoming a backcountry motorcycle guide 15 years ago.  I've now ridden and guided across China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and all over the American West.  I've traveled extensively (57 countries to date), mountaineering, skiing, trekking, surfing, and diving all over the world.  I've been the conflict area representative (war zones and natural disaster areas) for an international non-profit getting inserted into hot-spots all across Africa, western Asia, and the Pacific Islands.  I live for adventure.

My wife and I recently retired and make our home base in Salida, Colorado where I now work as a mechanic and restore old Porsches, early BMW airheads, and classic Corvettes whenever I'm not out discovering new places to play.  I truly believe that travel and shared exploration bring people together like nothing else in the world.  I'd love to share my backyard with you and take you deep into the backcountry to see this amazing landscape we're so lucky to call home.  What's around the next corner?

Ryan Muff has 15 years of coaching experience, 20 years of leadership experience and 35 years of motorcycle experience getting lost with the crew.  As a natural teacher he started his moto instruction career with his friends and family.  A friend’s near miss caused him to take instruction more seriously and he re-focused on safety, as opposed to speed.

When the Africa Twin was re-released in 2016 he realized “experience” was different than competence.  A 500 pound moto facilitated a whole new adventure but required excellent fundamentals with which he was not fully equipped.  Further exposure to the world of ADV caused the realization that he was not alone.

When he isn’t planning moto trips, teaching lessons or watching you tube videos on how to fix motorcycles he enjoys rock climbing, white water kayaking and family adventures.

I've been on three tours with Brett and Stephen over the years. Every time I have come along, the smiles last for miles! They spend a lot of time organizing the trip routes, places to see and things to do to keep the trips fun for the entire time. Along with the fact that the scenic tours in Colorado and Utah are curated to give the riders the best of the best no matter what level one rides. They really can read the room and dial in a great experience for everyone no matter where we go. Lots of communication back and forth about the routes, riders’ abilities to fit in, and fun mini adventures planned in between make for great times! Most importantly, they love to work through any issues that pop up as a team and not leave you in the dust. Brett and Stephen are flexible, fun, safe and great to hang out with at the campfire telling tall tales about the day’s ride. Get in the saddle with OutbackADV and have a blast wearing those dirt mustaches!
